The LAVA projectsLAVA Learning is the last project in the LAVA family. The project focuses on the use of multimedia tools in project work in schools. The project covers the span from development of multimedia learning resources and practial and secure handling of intellectual property rights to tools and pedagogy for teachers and pupils. During the three years of the project duration, three cases will be run on schools several places in Norway. For each case four of the major Norwegian content producers who have the scool as a market, will develop learning resouces.

LAVA HISTORY1994 - 1995LAVA (Delivery of video over ATM) was part of the Norwegian broadband programme HUGIN finansed by the Norwegian Research Council and led by Telenor Research & development from 1994. The main goal of the project was to develop a sysem that was capable of streaming high quality video over broadband ATM networks. The first version of this system was available late 1995. The system consisted of the Elvira Video Server, the LAVA communication system and the UNIX based video player. 1996This resulted in a video-on-demand demonstrator for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, NRK, where the regional TV news for northern Norway, Nordnytt was available over internet. See the demonstrator here. Late 1996 the project demonstrated live video from places frequentyly exposed for robberies to the main police station of Oslo. See the demonstrator here. The focus in this project is how to apply pedagogical tools for preparing distributed multimedia presentations used for teaching school children. This project terminates by the end of 1998.
